is long career with the State Department saw him serve as USAID Chief of Mission in several nations – including numerous stations in Africa and the Middle East – before moving on to even more notable US government projects. Lewis was the top person in charge of Iraq reconstruction after the Second Persian Gulf War, and personally oversaw the entire international relief effort in Haiti after the earthquake (including the US Military work there). He was appointed Ambassador to Swaziland by George W. Bush. Since retiring, he has worked in the private sector while accepting short-term USAID appointments, including coordinating relief efforts for Christian refugees fleeing ISIS.
