FAQs

Are the camps supported by the Nigerian government? If not, why?

It’s an evolving story politically in Nigeria, but the people we serve have had little to no transformational support from their government and are grateful for the benevolence of others outside their country.  There is no electrical power, no fresh water wells, food support, or permanent structures that have been built to house the growing number of refugees.

When will they be able to go back to their villages or homes?

The refugees have nothing to return to in their past.  Most of their relatives are gone. Boko Haram either confiscated their land and possessions, or their property and villages were torched. They’ve been recovering from trauma that is unimaginable.  Most are thankful to survive the day and dreams are hard to find.  This is what western education and spiritual formation can do for the children- give them tools to grow a mindset that exceeds the camp life, the only life many of them have ever known.

Who are the decision makers for the distribution of donation funding?

See our Mission page for complete information on our founders and local representatives in Nigeria.  Africa Arise was born out of an established Nigerian ministry of 20+ years led by Prof. John Ofoegbu founder of Unity for Africa and the International Coalition of Reconcilers.

What do the children study in their classes?

Each camp is different in their needs.  Where the camps have primarily a Christian population, they are studying a traditional grade school curriculum, along with biblical studies.  In our camps with a high population of Muslims, we focus on traditional curriculum and a lot of learning about Christlike love and values.  Hearts are opening to the Gospel through our service to our Muslim families.

Can we send supplies directly to the camps?

The camps do not have regular mail and freight deliveries. It is helpful for the camps to be able to address immediate needs directly through trusted distribution.

Do you host visitors to the camp?

We do schedule small group trips annually.  It is an experience that is typically life changing.  Please contact us here for more information.

How can churches engage with this ministry?

We welcome churches adopting an academy for a year or more.  It’s a wonderful way to spread the love of God and help your church community grow in their knowledge of a world that needs Jesus.  Contact us here for details and materials you can present to your church.

“Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All authority of the universe has been given to me. Now wherever you go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.”
